SA to battle Aus in George Sevens
9 Oct 2008
The Springbok Sevens team will enjoy a tough start to the George leg with rivals Australia drawn in Pool B.
Although Paul Treu’s charges will have home ground advantage at Outeniqua Park, they’ll have to dispose of the Aussies, USA and Georgia in order to advance to the Cup play-offs.
South Africa finished the 2007/08 IRB Sevens series in second place and will head into this competition as the second-seeded team. Last season’s overall winners, New Zealand, also won this leg of the series last year. They head into this competition as top seeds.
The George Sevens will take place on 5-6 December, a week after the series kicks off in Dubai. This is the sixth consecutive year George has hosted the SA leg of the IRB event.

Tackler always mocks us for having it in George (sleepy hollow) and he is right. George is Welkom by the sea… Only smaller….
Move it to a big town like Cape Town or Durban when all us Joburgers are down there. You get better weather (no rain), better crowd, better facilities, and hopefully better entertainment.
All over the world they play in massive venues – Wellington, Adelaide, London, San Diego, Dubai – and then we drop these poor fools in George. Poor guys
Have your say
