Koster the latest Baa Baa
14 Oct 2008
Nick Koster is the latest South African selected to represent the Barbarians when they take on Australia in December.
As part of the Baa Baas tradition, an uncapped player is picked to join the international stars in the squad. Western Province eighthman Koster is that player and he will join up with Richie McCaw, Jerry Collins, and Schalk Burger among the loose-forwards, while other team-mates will include John Smit, Bryan Habana, Percy Montgomery, Bakkies Botha as well as Fourie du Preez.
Other international players that have been confirmed are George Gregan, Carl Hayman and Shane Williams.
The 19-year-old Koster, who only matriculated from school last year, will also be coached by the World Cup-winning pair of Jake White and Eddie Jones.
The fixture against the Wallabies will take place on 3 December at Wembley.

I’m sure glad he’s from the wp. How does a youngster like him get into the baabaa’s team. Is it because he’s a Jew

Isnt it fantastic that we have 5 players who played Craven Week last year making the step up to provincial, and now international rugby?
Koster is a phenomenal talent. SA rugby is alive and well if we can rely on boys like him, Ebersohn, Petersen, Oosthuizen and van Vuuren to take us to RWC 2011, 2015, 2019 (by which time they will all be 28 and in their prime !!)

#4 Wezwp: The Barbarian spirit is always to play a young talent alongside the oldies. Jerome Kaino was a virtual unknown until he played for the Baabas and had a phenomenal game.

Sorry, he scored a try for AB’s AGAINST Barbarians. Oops

This is great news. Koster is a exciting talent. I have seen that Bishops rugby website media clip and he is doing some serious things on a rugby field. Not forgetting how many tries he scored in his last year at school. He was top in the country at 8th man.
International level is a whole new ball game but this will be good for him. He has tremendous pace…

I am going to this game by the way…

#4 Wezwp: Koster a Jew? Are you mad? And even if he was, what would that have to do with his being selected?

This will be a world XV team !! Ozzies are going to get smashed !!!

Hopefully Koster will not follow the same route as so many other of our highly talented loosies.
-Skinstadt
-Big Joe
-Spies
-Rassie
They were all ready to conquer the rugby world until a serious injury meant the end of that. They contiued to play good solid rugby, but never again reached the same hights.
Hopefully Spies can still regain his 2006 form.

OK, so this oke will have a test cap without having played for a National team. Nice.
15 Oct 2008, 15:11 pm
Great for his development. He is obviously a future star, and guys like Spies and Kanko need to know, not to take there places for granted. Koster is knocking..
Have your say
