Poms paste Islanders

England cruised against a Pacific Islanders combination who again flattered to deceive.

The idea of combining Tonga, Fiji and Samoa is a good one on paper, but on the field the three styles don’t gel and the Islanders looked like three teams playing as three teams, while Martin Johnson’s England were more clinical and more cohesive in everything they did.

The Islanders impressed with their own version of a haka, but that was about as much impact as they made with England the more convincing in playing the game.

England, dressed in unfamiliar red, played with promise as Martin Johnson’s tenure produced the necessary result.

Danny Cipriani kicked 14 points and scored a try as England won 39-13. England led 20-10 at halftime.

Scorers

Pacific Islanders – try: Rabeni Con: Hola. Pens: Hola, Bai
