The Boks would beat this side by 20 points. Seriously lacking in some areas. There is a reason why guys like Vosloo, Barrit etc have not played for the Boks. And that reason is (drum roll please) – They are not good enough !!

Burger was a good Currie Cup player AT BEST. I don’t think that anybody can seriously say that he is anywhere near to being a good Super 14 let alone international class player. Sheer pace will only get a player so far. He didn’t have much of a step, was tiny and critically, was defensively useless.

I tend to agree with you re Ross Skeate. He’s good in the lineouts but his lack of bulk meant that he really wasn’t the kind of forward you’d want with ball in hand or clearing out the rucks.

#58 Caracal: Very much. #4: Big strong grunt lock that can take the punch and hit the rucks HARD. Play a lot tighter and is ALWAYS near the ball. #5: Faster more athletic lock that is good line out jumper and can handle a ball good. Both should defend like demons and both should be there to take down the other teams forwards. Bekker should come on for MATFIELD. And if you gonna replace bakkies, replace him with Danie or Muller. Changing Bekker or Bakkies is a coaching blunder. Ross does fit the #5 lock mould, but is, like you say in my opinion, isn't good enough.

You’ve picked one out-and-out ball player in your list (I’ll give you a half for Bekker) – Matfield, name some others. Get with the modern game – a forward runs 2-3km’s more per game (in quick paced Super 14 and high intensity test rugby that is) and makes roughly 3-4 more tackles. I wouldn’t want dinosaurs all over the park buddy, just in a few spots. Jake’s Dino’s Down under showed us exactly how NOT to play the game.

What do you mean he was a converted basketball player? All i’ve ever read is that he played basketball AND rugby!? No? Do you actually understand how the game works – rugby that is – not basketball. If you had a look at Skeate’s stats I’m sure they’re probably pretty similar to Matfield’s. GO on look – I dare you! Your opinion is yours so – so i accept it. Note though, I never compared Skeate to Matfield. You don’t think the Boks lose a bit of edge when Bekker comes on for Bakkies?

#54 Caracal: Skeate was a converted basketball player. Obviously good hands in the air. But he is to skinny and doesn't have the grunt needed for international rugby. Some say he is in the Victor Matfield mould. But Victor is still HUGE (well okay, skinny legs). Then you'd have to play him with 'n big beefy lock like Bakkies or Danie. My question is? Why? Why do I need a lock that must pretect my little skinny lock just because the skinny lock has basketball hands. Skeate is overrated. Should stay in Europe.

ST – that’s a bit strong eh. Sounds like you know them personally? What are they like? Am not a big fan of Gaffie’s but Skeate’s a good player – not many in South Africa were as good or better both on his own lineout and competing on the opposition ball. I’d be happy for you to correct me though?
