White to aid Saracens

Jake White will link up with Eddie Jones in the new year as a consultant for Saracens.

The World Cup winning coach was aided by Jones in coaching the Barbarians and worked with the Australian at last year’s global tournament. White has already been consulting with Sarries specifically on defence. In 2009 he’ll provide similar input.

“I will be back at Saracens for a week in January and a week in February,” said White. “I am consulting to Saracens to help Eddie. It is a new voice. It is a tough competition in the northern hemisphere and it is nice to have a new voice, some new ideas.

“I am just glad I can add some value to a club like Saracens for Eddie.”

Jones was happy to have White on board and intimated the South African’s contribution will not be limited to defence.

“We obviously get on well and we complement each other in the way we do things.

“He will have a look on what we are doing and seeing where we can improve. He worked specifically on our defence last week but it could be in other areas. It is about adding value to our team.”

Harlequin @ 95 – you can’t call Khompela a clown. That has racial overtones.

My take on Khompela’s crusade is the following (and you can tell everyone that you read it here from the Beachwalker) – the ANC is embarrassed by Khompela. They want to get rid of him. They are giving him rope however to drive the white minority to distraction with his crusade against the springbok. When white males then feel that the tide is now completely against their precious emblem and they are feeling dispossess, disillusioned and at their lowest ebb, their redeemer will ride in on a great white horse, fire and banish Khompela and Frolic and preserver the Springbok foreever as rugby’s emblem in a Madiba like display of statesmanship. The redeemer? JACOB ZUMA – all to win some afrikaner votes / approval

Quite probable. And the majority of people, judging by keo, are too gullible to decide for themselves – they’ll suddenly think Zuma’s the best thing since sliced bread – without even considering externalities.

those bloggers suggesting jake played fs at 10 hoping to show up pdv are a bit childish.
i am no fan of jake (except for the fact that he brought back pride in the jersey) but, after his 1st choice 10 withdrew, what option did he have?
fs was originally on the bench to cover 10,12, and perhaps 15.

#87 Harry the beach walker: And bok represents our rugby. Put the 2 next to eachother and THEN run through brick wall.

Springbok is part of me and most other South African. Repect that and I’ll repect you.

    Poor Jake.

    Poor Eddie.

    Poor Francois.

You need to have skin as thick as elephant hide to be involved in professional rugby. Imagine if these poor okes are reading the comments on here.

“Danie Craven, questioned about whether a multi-racial side would also be called the Springboks.

“We, as the Springbok team, would not like to lose our identity, because the Springboks have always been associated with whites, the leopard, again, has been associated with the blacks. No one wants to lose his identity,” Craven replied.“

WPTID @ 105 – imagine they had reall jobs like us, instead of “working” part time and acting like playboys.

Grape white @ 108 – nice work. In light of the “great” and sagelike Craven’s comments, isn’t it time for a new emblem that unites everyone, one that is not associated with white or black. Step forward the King Protea.

WPTID @ 111 – we must still organise for the Fireman’s Arms quiz again. I’m leaving this job in the new year and moving back into the City. I should be at the Fireman’s every Thursday then

If Khompela is not simply on a spiteful, malicious, provocative ego-trip (suspending disbelief to the utmost, I know), then why is his gripe not with the Springbok as the national animal, but only with it being used as an emblem for rugby?

#65 SexyTime: No Aussie or Kiwi would like to see the demise of the famous Springbok. If you have ever had the privilege of listening to some of the old timers that fought with the “Springboks” (that is what the South African solders were called) in the Western Desert during WW2 you would understand why. Every Aussie or Kiwi kid who plays rugby, learns from a young age about the mighty Springboks and those with talent and ambition will strive to be good enough to earn the right to test themselves against them.

Sadly, it seems to me that Luke Watson and your politicians are not your only countrymen who gleefully anticipate the the last rights being administered to that graceful animal.

Hopefully they won’t succeed. Long live the Springbok.

Harry, please completely ignore this and the previous comment because it is based on a total and abject lack of an understanding of the real South African situation, as a perusal of our history will reveal – I know this, you know this and even WPTID knows this, despite him showing a desire to cuff you(joke)

WPTID: An off white(yesterday you asked the question) is a South African who is paler than most and who was previously advantaged but who, like you, has views, thoughts that are humane and human (a humanist in Africa) – so smile.

#116 ET: A mere perusal of South African history is not going to help you much. I suggest you do a lot more homework to develop a true understanding and hopefully an objective one at that. (Pretend that you are looking for a home for hundreds of millions of investment dollars for your clients and then get your hands on some real intelligence on your country)
Well Harry, you can take your mates advice and close your eyes, bury your head in the sand and pretend that reality is an illusion.

Wow, a measly 6% of respondents to the poll believe the Springbok should be scrapped. What an insignificant minority…

#87 Harry the beach walker: Wasn’t the Protea the national emblem of South Africa during apartheid?

Are you Puke Watson by any chance?

  • 121.JayDaFiveOh: Reply to this comment

#119 wooden spoon: If the Springbok is scrapped entirely SA Rugby will become bankrupt and our rugby will decline to the level of Kenya and Nambia! The Sports Ministry in SA puts sweet fck all into developing sports in the country – the only reason why the Boks are able to compete with Aus and NZ is due to the cash ploughed into rugby by Saru from cash generated through merchandise, TV deals, international tours and ticket sales – the main catalyst for keeping all this business going? The Springbok!

Take away the Springbok which is an internationally recognise symbol and you will see all of those deals fall away leading to a crippled rugby administration!

Its only in SA that the Springbok is made out to be this controversial symbol by a few trouble makers like Komphela, to the rest of the world it is a world renowned rugby team! If it was such a controversial issue then why wasn’t it abandoned before the 95 world cup? What about the All-Blacks? Surely their name isn’t very politically correct? They have the word “blacks” in their name and they’re not all black! Its just an excuse by Komphela et al to look like they’re doing something useful by shouting a lot about this and gullible people like Harry the Beach walker are falling for it hook, line and sinker!

    # Harry the beach walker: “…my blood is green” – Mzwandile Stick, Springbok Sevens captain and winner of the IRB Sevens Cup, George 2008.

How do you feel about that quote? How would Komphela view such a statement? The Sevens jersey has a much bigger Springbok on it than their other Springbok contemporaries?

If the Springbok is such an evil image of racist apartheid then why is a rugby made up of a majority of black players so proud to play and win as Springboks? Stick was absolutely loving when he collected the trophy and it was a very proud moment for South Africans! Go and ask him if you take away the Springbok brand whether he would be still be so motivated to play for SA?

Eish, I could strangle Puke Watson! He really stirred up a hornets nest!
