South Africa will go into Wednesday’s first Test in a confident mood after their bowlers completed a strong display against Western Australia at the Waca.
Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Paul Harris all came through the match without any issues. The only concern was an ankle problem for the wicketkeeper Mark Boucher.
Steyn looked to be back to his best with two wickets in his 12 over spell and Harris captured 4 for 94 in his return from a fractured thumb.
Western Australia were dismissed late in the afternoon for 280 – 40 short of the South Africans’ first-day total.
The only issue for the Proteas would have been, yet again, their inability to kill off the tail when Aaron Heal got 68 with Harris in particular coming in for some serious stick from the No 8 when he smashed four sixes in five balls.
South Africa – 320-8d (90 overs)
AB de Villiers 129 (retired), Neil Mckenzie 69, Hashim Amla 59*
Western Australia – 280 all out (71.5 overs)
Matt Johnston 83, Aaron Heal 68, Paul Harris 4-94, Dale Steyn 2-33
