Liefling keeps his cool

Derick Hougaard scored 14 points as Leicester claimed a dramatic 24-22 victory over Bath at Welford Road.

The former Bulls No 10 slotted a drop goal to bring his side back within striking range before kicking a pressure conversion that put them into the lead with three minutes to go. Hougaard then charged down a desperate long-range drop goal from Butch James that allowed the Tigers to finish the game inside opposition territory.

That all helped to made amends for the two earlier conversions Hougaard had missed.

James – sporting a new blonde hairstyle – had an outstanding game for the visitors, setting up Bath’s second and third tries and kicking two conversions and a penalty. But two tries from Tom Croft saw Leicester fight their way back from a 22-9 deficit with 23 minutes to go.

The result sees the Tigers move into the top four of the English Premiership, with Bath in third position.
