Glasgow trounce Toulouse
17 Jan 2009
Glasgow scored an unlikely upset when they downed French giants Toulouse 33-26 on Saturday.
Dan Parks excelled for the Scottish side as the visitors staved off a strong Toulouse fightback. Glasgow scored three tries in all, and only some accurate kicking by Toulouse’s Gaffie du Toit ensured the hosts finished with a valuable bonus point.
Perpignan fared better beating the Ospreys 17-15, but the bonus point garnered by the Welsh outfit sees them still in the hunt to top their European Cup pool.
Meanwhile, Leicester smashed Benetton Treviso 52-0 with Kiwis Aaron Mauger and Scott Hamilton scoring a brace apiece. Harlequins came short in their European Cup game at Ravehill with Ulster taking the spoils at 21-10.
Wasps edged Leinster 19-12 but CJ van der Linde’s team picked up the consolatory bonus point to stay top of their pool.

#2 SpringbokSarah: Toulon have been playing poorly, although they are still pretty exciting to watch. Give the team a couple of seasons at Top 14 level and they’ll do fine…they should also drop Umanga as their manager…..
I saw you got yourself a comment of the week over at sarugby.com and I will say it with you Go Stormers!

#2 SpringbokSarah: The Irony is Toulon actually has the most exciting names on paper . Names like Jerrry Collins and Sonny Bill Williams . I feel Sonny Bill Williams has the potential to be one of the very biggest names in rugby. The man is supremely gifted ! The biggest name at Toulouse is probably what ? Kelleher ? Clerc ? Jauzion ?
#4 MittenRugger: Agreed but Tana just needs time. Maybe some support coacing from Jake White in the background. It is after all his first ever coaching venture.

#7 rugbygenius: That’s what I was thinking. They bought the best… I kinda assumed they would dominate

#7 rugbygenius: It just proves that a good team is more than a bunch of superstars. Good rugby moral story
Umanga has too much of an ego, they brought in some aussie coach and he was gone after one day because Tana didn’t get along with him too well…he also got a red card for ignoring a ref in a match….when he was being a waterboy.
#6 SpringbokSarah: I read it enough I should be…

if the game was in glasgow, you can understand why the frogs lost. weather must be shite at this time of the year. i watched some of ‘quins vs ulster game and the weather was ****.
the frogs probably had a foot on the plane before the game reached halfway.
why don’t they play rugby in summer in the northern hemisphere?
Have your say
