Toulon deny Spencer links

Big spending French Top 14 side Toulon have dismissed reports that Carlos Spencer is poised to join them.

French newspaper La Provence reported on Monday that the former All Blacks flyhalf is in the process of negotiating a deal that will see him move from Premiership side Northampton to the south of France.

The 33-year-old Spencer has 18 months to run on his current deal, but is out of favour at Northampton and is reported to be looking to move in a bid to get regular game time. Toulon, however, deny that they are looking to acquire his services.

“We have no links with Mr Spencer. We haven’t made contact with him,” Toulon media manager Benjamin Larrue told keo.co.za via e-mail.

Toulon, who are captained by Springbok loose forward Joe van Niekerk, are currently second from bottom in the Top 14, having lost 11 of their 15 matches.

Toulon will first have to get clearance from Boland for Spencer’s services. Wan’t he going to play CC rugby for the Wellington side?

The services of Spencer is too expensive for Boland. That was only rumours. At 33 years he is most likely way past his best

One of the SA sides should buy him.

he’s **** and a choker of note. Toulon should take Jake’s advice on this one and buy some young talent.

Easily the most naturally talented player of his generation

Toulon would do with his gifts even though they might have dimished a wee-bit.

watchin him in 2003 for the Blues in the S12 and AB’s was magical.Rugby at its glittering finest.

Big Hit, remind us again which international team you played for and how many tests you played?

Great player, would have played many more in the Black jersey if Merhtens hadn’t been around.

Big *** you were saying on here a few months ago that the finacial crisis wasn’t that bad and rugby wouldn’t be affected, your knowledge of all things financial is on a par with your rugby knowledge.

#12 Richie_7: do I ask you how many tests you’ve played when you comment on a player? no, so don’t ask me. I don’t rate him despite his ability to make flash breaks, it takes more than that to be a great flyhalf.

Mate with respect I don’t think you really understand what is unfolding, nothing wrong with being ignorant though.

#18 NZINCHINA: I think you’re dramatising it. The bailouts have averted disaster for the present but we’re entering a recession of sorts, how deep that will be nobody knows (or can know) so we’re free to draw our own conclusions.

#19 Big Hit: Huge job losses in the USA, bigger than expected job losses in the UK etc. etc – so, big ***, I guess you are as good an economist as you are a rugby expert – you should rename yourself – maybe “big *** wait until the autumn internationals expert” !
