Tahs make winning start
24 Jan 2009
Two tries from winger Peter Playford saw the Waratahs beat the Reds 17-5 in their opening pre-season match in Toowoomba.
Flyhalf Kurtley Beale was instrumental in the Tahs’ first score, putting Playford across for the opening try of the game.
Another experienced campaigner in Sam Norton-Knight created the Waratahs next try with a line-beating show-and-go and sidestep creating space for Playford to cross for his second.
With lightning peppering the ground throughout the match, the heavens finally opened in the final 20 minutes making conditions difficult for both sides.
The Reds scored a consolation try through replacement halfback Will Genia inside the last 10 minutes.
Waratahs – Tries: Peter Playford (2), Mitch Inman. Conversion: Kurtley Beale
Reds – Try: Will Genia.

Beating the reds is about as useful as beating the EC Under 11F Cricket Team

Either the reds are stronger than last year or the Tahs are off to a slow start

That will mean poor reading for the Bulls when they could possibly be beaten in their game against the reds.

When did the Waratahs get Peter Playford?
Last I heard he chose not to extend his Brumbies contract to go and play in Europe.
A very underrated winger, played a lot better than most of the established Wallaby wingers in last years S14.
Have your say
