Gym aim for top-three ranking

Paarl Gym’s 1st XV had an outstanding season in 2008, sharing the No 1 ranking with Grey College.

Gym will once again be coached by Nico Momsen who has been involved with the 1st XV for 15 years and also coaches the WP U18 Craven Week side.

Momsen will be assisted by Philip Taylor, with Louis Koen, the former Springbok flyhalf and current Boland assistant coach, focusing on the kickers and general backline play.

Mark Matzopoulos, a new addition to the set-up, will focus on the skills department having learnt his trade at Iranz (the New Zealand rugby academy).

Gimmies hope to maintain their dominance over their arch-rivals Paarl Boys’ High, who they have not lost to in the last five years.

A top-three spot on the SA Schools rankings is also non-negotiable.
