Balie Swart helps Hilton
28 Jan 2009
Hilton 1st XV coach Tony Richter has enlisted the services of Balie Swart, the 1995 World Cup-winning Bok and scrum guru.
Swart was an integral part of Jake White’s Springbok management set-up. The knowledge and expertise he brings to the school’s 1st XV will be invaluable, and he should add some firepower to the Hilton pack.
Charles Louw, a well-known coach in KwaZulu-Natal rugby circles, has also been called upon to help with the phase plays and set pieces.
Richter, who is entering his ninth season with Hilton and also coaches the KwaZulu-Natal U18 Craven Week side, wants to make the famous Gillfillan field a fortress and avenge last season’s heartbreaking defeats to neighbours Michaelhouse.
Hilton have now lost four consecutive games against the ‘old enemy’. A player to look out for in 2009 is Hilton’s left wing Emil Schwarz, who scored an incredible 23 tries for the 1st XV last year.
