Recruit starts for Maties

JP Koster will line-up for Stellenbosch against his former team-mates from UCT in their opening match of the Varsity Cup.
The SA Students hooker and older brother of Stormers squad member Nick, JP played for the Ikeys last year but has defected to Maties for this campaign.
The match on Monday afternoon is a repeat of last year’s final at Coetzenburg, which Stellenbosch sneaked 16-10 due to a last minute try from wing Morne Jooste.
The Stellenbosch backs include recruited centre from Pukke Paul Bosch, as well as Vodacom Cup players Coenie van Wyk (flyhalf) and Dabeon Draghoender (No 13).
Livewire flank Wesley Wilkens returns to captain the side after missing the final last year due to injury.
The match kicks off at 16:45 at the Groote-Schuur fields, and will be preceded by the Shimlas/NMMU fixture at 14:45.

I vividly remember last year’s final. Got to the stadium and people were mulling about, sold out. We scaled the mountain and wormed under the fence, having to evade security. It was well worth it! what a magical spectacle of rugby, the Stellenbosch boys clinching it at the death.

being an old matie I do think it was unfair to hold the final in stellies last year but it seems as if the same could happen again this year as uct still has k@k facilities. Lets not forget that maties is actually their third team as rest play for stomers and vodacom cup,so they have the right to use whatever players they feel like

JAMBAI, they are unethical cheats. Would you do a deal and then change the script sfter you signed it? Look, take nothing away from them they are a quality university qwith great facilities-its just that as Luke Watson would say, The “********” are the biggest sharks in the business. The will cheat and lie to win.

Monday is going to be massive! Everybody in the Cape should make an effort to get down to the game. Especially to see UCT exact revenge for last years final.

Not sure but I think new rules take effect this year demanding all the players to be registered students at their respective institutions and below the age of 24.

No lets not be fooled both great varsities(just look at their track records),and UCt play attractive rugby and probally punch above their weight ,but highlander maties just have such depth compared to uct.That being said monday should be interesting and UCT are very good at Groote Schuur.

#19 jambai: UCT is the worst team I’ve played. We are a lot of boertjies from the Boland. About 3 years ago we had a very strong team, and Ikeys wanted to play a frindly. 20 min before the end of the game, the coach thanked us for the game (sarcastically thanked us) and took his players off the field.
We were not dirty at all, but takled 3 players ( all legal tackles) off the field with strechers.
It is part of rugby, and if your backline moves is as open as a Harry Potter noval, you are gonna get tackled.
Was very dissapointed!
Maties, on the other hand, you know you played them the next morning when you wake up!

Skiet vir Luke- your name says it all. The coach would never do that-obviously something sinister occur(That mans something bad). The difference between the 2 is the budget-Steinhoff sponsor Maties to the amount of 4 million a year while UCT get Vokall, on top of that the Bursary system outweighs the Ikey students by 10 to 1.So if UCT get within 20 points every time they play the Maroons then it should be a moral victory. No one is saying that Maties is a poor Uni, the problem is the Liars and Cheats that are involved in the RUGBYKANTOOR at Coetzenburg. They are unethical(that means that they arent honest).
