Barkley’s boot sinks Exiles
31 Jan 2009
Six penalties from Olly Barkley ensured Gloucester claimed a much needed 23-21 win over London Irish at Kingsholm.
The visitors outscored Gloucester two tries to one, but Barkley’s unerring boot handed them the win after they fought back from 18-3 down just before half-time. Wingers Topsy Ojo and Adam Thompstone scored for Irish, while Iain Balshaw crossed the whitewash for the hosts.
The win puts Gloucester on top of the the log.
Meanwhile ex-Bok hooker Gary Botha scored in Harlequins’ comprehensive 27-6 victory over Northampton.
In the other premiership fixture of the day, Sale Sharks outplayed Worcester 37-20. Australian fullback Chris Latham was on the score-sheet for the losers.
