Jongi lagging in race for fitness
5 Feb 2009
Jongi Nokwe has been given a ’50-50 chance’ of playing the Lions and a call on his availability will be made on Monday.
Cheetahs assistant coach Hawies Fourie told keo.co.za earlier this week Nokwe had suffered a hand injury in the victory over the Bulls and would need two weeks to recover. Head coach Naka Drotske gave this website an update on Thursday and the outlook for Cheetahs fans is not great.
“Jongi’s 50-50 at the moment. He didn’t train yesterday and is still complaining about pain in his wrist,” said Drotske.
“We’ll make the final call on Monday.”
Lineout kingpin David de Villiers missed the recent clash against the Bulls but will be ready to tackle the Lions in Johannesburg next Friday. Centres Corne Uys and Jacques-Louis Potgieter look to be over their respective niggles so at present Nokwe is the only concern.
Should Nokwe fail to recover by Monday, one of Fabian Juries or Bjorn Basson will slot in on the left wing.

50% fit should be good enough against the Lions.

What about Nontshinga. Trompie was a superstar for the lions. And now only 4 or even 5th choice.

#9 sienersmirrie: I smoke 20 a day. I’m about 15kg overweight and I’m scared of contact BUT even I will be a superstar in the Lions team.
