Lions centre Walter Venter has been included in UJ’s squad to face Maties in the second round of the Varsity Cup on Monday.

Venter has played at both Super 14 and Currie Cup levels and will bring some much needed experience when UJ face the defending champions in Stellenbosch.

Captain Niel Visagie failed a fitness test and won’t make the trip to the Cape, but fullback Earl Lewis has been declared fit and has been named in the starting XV.

Meanwhile, Maties centre Dabeon Draghoender has been suspended for three weeks following his spear tackle on an opponent in last weeks game against UCT.

Draghoender’s suspension seas replacement Jean Stemmet joining Paul Bosch in midfield for Maties.
