Supporting Steyn

Supporting Steyn

Frans Steyn needs to be backed. It’s a plea more than a command, and one shared by the vast majority in the South African rugby fraternity.

sar-coverHe is an exceptional talent and has proven this at Super 14 and Test level, where he shone on the biggest stage of all, the World Cup. The fact that he was 20 years old and playing in a position unfamiliar to him bears testament to what a special talent we’ve produced.

However, 2008 saw him dabble in mediocrity. There were outstanding performances, particularly in the Currie Cup, to remind his critics of his class. But there can be no denying that he regressed from the heights of 2007. Mitigating factors there are aplenty, the primary one being the failure of his coaches to settle on a set position for him.

That problem seems to be alleviated, with Sharks coach John Plumtree confirming that Steyn is set for an extended run at inside centre. Now it’s time to back the boy. That’s the rallying cry from SA Rugby magazine’s panel of experts – Alan Solomons, Murray Mexted, Eddie Jones and John Plumtree.

All believe Steyn to be a rare talent capable of dominating the game in a manner few have if he’s given the right support structures, time to settle and freedom to express himself. In the new issue of SA Rugby magazine, on sale Wednesday, they explain what’s gone wrong in the past and plot the way forward for the best young buck to emerge in the past decade.

Also in the new issue:

sar-koster– A schoolboy sensation for Bishops, Nick Koster was always destined for greatness. Expect him to live up to the hype.

– USA Eagles captain Todd Clever turned down a lucrative offer with a European club to play Super 14 rugby for the Lions. The flanker talks about that crucial decision, learning Afrikaans, his new nickname and what it’s like to live in Johannesburg.

Meyer Bosman on playing flyhalf for the Cheetahs, the team’s defensive problems, injury setbacks, and what he loves about Bloemfontein.

– Ex-flanker Derick Kuün believes 2009 will be his breakthrough season at hooker.

sar-big-joe– New Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder on why his understanding of the team’s culture offsets his lack of coaching experience, whether he’ll be speaking to Robbie Deans during the Super 14, what he will do differently from Deans, the massive loss of Dan Carter and the ELVs.

– When the Queensland Reds poached All Blacks flank Daniel Braid from the Auckland-based Blues, it ushered in a new era of Super Rugby.

Joe van Niekerk reveals how his playboy lifestyle affected his rugby career and insists he’s not the same person he was 18 months ago. But is this change we can believe in?

– Injury-prone England flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson has gone from tortured soul to enlightened being with help from mentor Steve Black.

sar-ebersohn– Wales No 8 Andy Powell wouldn’t be playing rugby today if it wasn’t for Springbok selector Ian McIntosh.

– The budding relationship between the Stormers and English club Saracens is bound to reap mutual benefit in years to come.

Robert Ebersohn has no regrets about picking sevens over Super Rugby. The 20-year-old explains why he enjoys working with coach Paul Treu, why the Boks will win the Sevens World Cup in Dubai, and his thoughts on South African Mat Turner playing for the England Sevens side.

STOP MAKING SUCH A FUSS OVER STEYN FFS . The laaitie needs to realise that he doesn’t know everything despite having a World Cup Medal.I still think he is a great prospect, but there is way to much of a fuss around him . I think he should be treated in the media as any other player so he can realise he’s not as special as he thinks he is.

nee man, why should we back steyn? He should back himself up, are we expected to back nick koster too because he is seen as a ”bishops” cult hero? Nonsense, why aren’t we implored in articles to back burton francis or magic ebersohn or mzwandile stick?

Those guys don’t have praise singers trumpeting their talents, they do it all on the park

so the currie cup is good to be seen as measure for steyn’s ”class” but other player that shine there we’re told the currie cup is watered down and can’t be used as a yardstick to guage one’s aptitude. Get out of here…

When frans plays k@k he should be told, when his limitations are glaring, he should be told and not praised and afforded excuses & time… If you back frans then by all means back earl rose…lol

Steyn is a good 15 and we should use him there as Jantjes dont offer us the something special. The springboks will be a better outfit as Steyn offers you something extra. He can catch, kick just as well if not better than Jantjes and his defence and running is strong. He justs need to cut out the silly mistakes he does every now and then and maybe learn to pass when someone is in a better position than him.

Jantjes catch and do a gary owen that he seldom gets back

Why is Derrick Kuhn picked ahead of Chilliboy and Maku?

Chilliboy & Maku are both former SA schools hookers.
Both havin been playing hooker all their seriuous careers.
Both come from established rugby schools.
Both are better hookers than Kuhn.

Kuhn could not crack it as a flank.
Kuhn is a make shift hooker.
Kuhn is unlikely to develop physically, this is far as he can take it.

Then Y does he think 2009 will be his year. Probably he is the smallest hooker in the S14 and us South Africans are obsessed with size.

He is White Quota Player (WQP).

Frans has made blunders and magic … all on the field. Not with his mouth … there’s your difference! Stick could have missed that kick in Dubai, it’s the type of thing Frans would have tried and you experts would have sent a lynch mob for the guy.

    # sharks_lover: you and mauler haven’t told us why we should back steyn, you’re busy calling other people names…

Frans is extremely limited in his game, he shows promise but that’s it promise, burton francis imo has a better all round skills set than frans and his decision making far eclipses frans’ but we don’t here anyone saying he should be in the bok setup, we don’t here that his talent must be fast-tracked and when he flounders we must find a spot for him…

Conrad jantjies plays fullback,is he the best in the country, you can answer that question for urself, frans steyn says he wants to play flyhalf (he even had a whole SASI cover article on it), is he the best @ flyhalf, hell no!

Now why should we back a guy who is not the best in his prefered position? Ad J acobs plays centre, if he is **** @ centre we won’t find him a spot @ 14, he will be dropped! Finish & klaar

Now let’s see you display some integrity and tell us what ur rationale for ”backing’ steyn is

  • 43.hater: Reply to this comment

    # Disa: There is talent. No denying. In 2006 I was impressed, and there appeared to be some growth in 2007, he messed their Super 14 chances though.

But in 2008, he became arrogant. I watched games where the Sharks got a penalty, and without waiting to hear what move the Captain, Johan Muller wanted to make, Steyn would grab the ball and kick, and miss.

I thought he might need a talking to, but it has not changed. One would have thought that he would have calmed down and settled into things like Ruan, did, and JP and Victor. Come off the hype of the WC, and do his job. But he didn’t. He has had coaching influence from people all over at various levels and the world, and they still cannot seem to make him be a team player. What young player in the WORLD, gets this kind of opportunaty, and still cannot fire.

Now. If you say, he needs time. Fair enough. But how much, and why does he get it, but other talented youngsters who understand the concept of team playing, never get chance after chance after chance. When is Frans going to step up. 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011? The next 10 years? And why must he keep getting all these bites at the cherry, whilst others are dropped and sent back to play Vodacom Cup, or CC to grow? Something is not right. More over. We must read articles saying, believe and support this guy, ONE MORE TIME…. Well I’m done. I feel that he needs to grow up and get on with his job and a professional rugby player who plays for a team, not personal gain and accolades for himself.

How many others have fitted more into their rugby career at this age.

    I’ll tell you……..None.

The one thing he seems to lack though, is instinct.

Think Jost, Kruger, Ray Mort, Honniball and even Naas.

(Instinct, can it be learned or are you born with it. Greatness, is it earned or predestined ?)

  • 59.Francois Steyn is over-rated: Reply to this comment

Oh my. It seems the public opinion about Frans has swayed. I actually feel a bit sorry for him, but the fact is he should think things through a bit more carefully. He is a great prospect, but thus far has shown nothing to equal his hype. Yes he had a good RWC, but SA were rarely tested and were (or should have been) in a different league to most of our opponents. In the Final he missed a crucial tackle which almost lost us the match, but other than that had a solid tournament.

He should concentrate on being a fullback. Not just because I think his whole game (huge drops, huge punts, slow kicks from hand, poor linking, strong on feet) are suited to this position, but because when you compare Springbok incumbents, nobody would argue that JDV is way above the class that Conrad is. Grab the no. 15 Jersey, otherwise sit on the bench and wait for JDV to become injured. Either way, I don’t mind. Certainly Frans will struggle to ever reach his hype.

A player should play in the position where he is told to do so. Rugby revolves aroud a team and no single player is above the team. I think this is where Steyn needs some elementary education. He demands things and starts with threats to enforce his perspectives on the rugby fraternity in a whole as such.

  • 134.hater: Reply to this comment

    # Francois Steyn is over-rated: No. I am a Crusaders fan. From the days of Blackadder(playing years) and Thorn. I grew up watching rugby, DC only came on the scene later. Him and Richie. I do appreciate his ability though, no rugby lover can deny his genius. But it was more than just him. I ordered my 2009 Saders top from All Blacks.com and I cannot wait for Saturday morning. I slept in it the day it arrived.

I think the Chiefs are a feisty bunch and they, along with the Highlanders were the only sides that beat the Saders last year.

I have my worries about this year’s group. Many key players have left, so we’ll see. They still have Casey, whom I like, Ellis is there, who had a good super 14 season last year, Brad Thorn and Keiran Read, so we’ll see. But win or lose. My team is the Crusaders.

    # kevin w: One big difference. Bret is NOT an All black. His country is waiting for him to step up to the likes of DC, etc, and be good enough.

Frans Steyn, gets handed the 10 jersey for fun.

You wanna compare a player who plays National to a Super 14 player?

We’ll see. I think Colin Slade (not an All black)however may get the priveledge of the 10 jersey ahead of Brett, as he was still troubled with injury. Just like I think Ruan will get the 10 jersey ahead of Steyn. Plumtree is not crazy, although I wish he was, and played Steyn there.

do you watch rugby? waylon developed some sort of crab disease, he could only run sideways across the field. this after he and barrit were THE centre combo of the 2007 s14.

    second season blues? maybe.

happens to the best of them. ruan, JPP, frans, waylon and barrit all had indifferent seasons last year. this year? eish, i would be kinda nervous if i didnt support them.

Fires travelling 7 km in 10 minutes gives nobody anytime to get out especially when the fire comes over the hill.

We begin to hear stories of people seeing people die not by the fire but by the radiation of the intense heat, some say, people died even though they were approx 100 metres from the blaze.

    # Cuito Carnivale: look, it works SOMETIMES if there is a runner coming off your shoulder but most of the time it just closes gaps and makes a slide defense much easier.

i am not sure of the reason he suddenly started doing it but he seemed to be trying to find a way to run around his opposition and it didnt work. his time at wing however forced him to run straight and he was competent without being outstanding.

imo it is a waste of talent for him to play on the wing though as not only is his defense outstanding, he has the ability to brak tackles in the midfield and is able to (used to in fact) run great lines.

barrit was injured a lot and frans and him may not have jelled too well so maybe frans was the issue. lets see how this year pans out.

i think if you look at individuals from both teams, everything’s about 50/50. its when you look at combinations that the sharks is starting to edge us. a potential weakness in my opinion may be their 9,10,12 combination
    but
only because of the fact that they couldnt have much gametime together and can count against them in tight situations.
on the other hand, if that combination of the sharks fire, we’re in trouble.

    but
no matter which way it will go, i think its gonna be a huge game and something to look forward to.

    # greatest13gerber: The whole game is filled with great match ups, except in the front row there it is no contest. Don’t think the dominance will count for more than 10 points cos if the Stormers scrum clever they can get away with it, like the Aussies almost always seem to do.

    The final word on Gaza:

Israel know that Hamas are a resistance organisation that gain popularity through the martyrdom of its members. The martyrdom thing sounds nuts to us but imagine being oppressed your whole life and then a group rock up who are prepared to die to better your situation.

Hames did take power from Hamas in Gaza with much blood shed. Hamas do run a more controlling theocracy than Fatah. Many people in Gaza are against Hamas.

The main thing about Hamas that Israel is relying on is that they are a group of freedom fighters who do not know how to govern. Their soldiers have become brutal policemen. The standard of living has dropped.

Israel in the past few days bombed lots of infrastructure (water plants etc). They know that support for Hamas is decreasing and they want to speed up the process. Israel are blocking even concrete entering Gaza now.

Israel are prepared to create a humanitarian disaster to get rid of Hamas.

The obvious issues with this are that 1) more innocent people will suffer and die 2) it may not decrease support for Hamas as they can go back to being the martyrs for the people.

Woops – a few mistakes as quickly written
    - Hamas took over power from Fatah
    - groups martyring today are offshoots and not officially Hamas who are trying to look like legitimate rulers
    - most of the Hamas glory is from past martyrdom
    - living standards have actually dropped mostly to blockades but Hamas have still proven that they can not run a country very well

This Friday the rugby overlaps with the cricket!

I am looking for some first game Brumbie rustyness to get the Highlanders home in the first game.

hard to pick the Healing Crystals vs the Directionless Individuals up next

Lions have to be favourites against Cheetahs. I predict a great game of rugby regardless of the fact both sides will struggle again this season.

I think that the Chiefs are going to shock a few people and the Crusaders are going to do it hard in their first game up.

Canes will annihilate the Tahs. A 5 pointer.

Stormers vs Sharks. Hmmm. Would have to be Sharks. I hope not though because the Sharks have a good team and a great draw. Go the Stormers.

I will be backing my temporary home town Reds against the Bulls but it will all be in vein

I have the Brumbies for an even contest against the Highlanders in Dunedin, but for the Brumbies to pull away in the second half and take it by 7+.

The Blues will prove too classy for a solid Force team that historically are slow starters – Blues by 7+.

The Lions and Cheetahs game will be hard-fought and close – but I back the Cheetahs to just edge it.

I agree with you that the Crusaders will struggle against a fiery Chiefs outfit – Crusaders to just take it by 4 or 5.

The Waratahs will shock everyone by trouncing the Canes by 15+…but the “France of NZ” will then come back stronger than ever in the second round.

The Stormers v Sharks game must be the game of the weekend. Expect a hard-fought battle, Rassie calling uncontested scrums just after half-time, vomit on the sidelines…but Stormers will just nudge it with home ground support.

The Bulls, despite some lacklustre pre-season showings, with their depth, physicality and home ground advantage will be too much for the Reds to handle, and should win by 7+.

You don’t think the Blues could catch the Force cold? Their pre-season prearations could have been seriously disrupted by the whole “we don’t like our coach shouting at us” affair.

I also think that if the Sharks “click” they could win by more, but as I said previously, first weekend games are wide open as the adrenalin is pumping, and every player is “up for it”. Lots of games could end up with strange results this weekend.

As for the nasty comments – I certainly don’t want to get involved so do just move on. But I can’t help feeling uncomfortable with the nasty stuff. Too old for that. # crikey mate did you see that shark: I for one just pleased that FS is playing for our Sharkies. Just wait and see him play his best rugga this season after playing in just one position the whole S14. Under Plum too this youngster is going to show a lot of people why so many rate him. He is pure class. No doubts about that.

crikey but u guys are a bunch of pathetic whiners…
this guy is probably the biggest rugby talent this country produced in quite a while… sure he has some bad moments and so, but what he has accomplished in his short career, how he had adapted to different positions and opinions etc is a true sign of greatnes… and sorry if it takes a woman to point this out to you.
which other player would have put his hand up like he did in WC 2007 at centre? wynand – whatever! get real an be thankful we have a guy like him in this country…

Did you see England got bowled out for 51 in the 2nd innings by WI and lost that test by a innings? Their worst in since 1930. Cant see them win the ashes at all. Saw some comments now they blame KP calling him the South African that let them down. A few months and a year ago if you said to them he was a saffa they all said no ways he is British. Now that he has not played well its the South African. Mmmmmmmmm Sometimes I wonder about the Brits. Not you Carol if you reading this. KP should have left after having to give up the captains job.

Carstens is good in any company these days and if the Beast continues to improve at his exponential rate the last couple of years, he could be in a class of his own this year. We are spoiled at hooker and well covered at tighthead with Barney and Bismarck there.

My 10 cents worth on Mr Steyn. Does not seem to be a good decision maker & this results in some stupid plays on his part. Clearly has talent & is still very young. Maybe he’s been switched around in too many positions to settle down. I wonder how coachable he is & whether he is a team player. I would pick him at #15 & let him gain S14 & test experience there.

  • 507.JimT: Reply to this comment

  • 508.carcharodon carcharias: Reply to this comment

    # JimT: He is a team player, your comment on them switching him too much is relevant. Its been decided though, his future is at centre and they are having an extended run in 10 and 12 jersey (Pienaar and Steyn), could also be the Bok combination in time, but Steyn will probably still be on the bench there for a while, as long as jean de Villiers is around and in the form he is.

I am for now just putting the numeber on. Hope others do aswell. Will make it easier for all of us. Also the our nicks should be enlarged or in bold black otherwise its a bit difficult to find your mates. Also think that the posts should be a little closer no need for them to be so far apart. Have to scroll down too much. Wish they would bring back the one page aswell instead of many pages for so many posts.

    # JimT: 506 – Think that Steyn has been moved about so much in so many positions its hard to really be a great player playing all positions. Think he is a natural fullback but cant see PdV selecting him there so he will play inside centre the whole of the S14. Think now that he will play only one position we will see after the S14 a very different player. I think a world class player at insided centre. FS just has too much class not to be a great. Like I said been messed about too much in different positions. Also needs to start and not come in from the bench like he done a lot of the time last year.

I think Sat will be very close. A win by 7 from either sides. I am going for my team Sharks. Hope they can do it. Going to be a cracker of a game.

Frans Steyn was equated to Christiano Ronaldo by a [insert suitable inebriation reference here] “reporter” a few days ago. btw I’m no C Ronaldo fan but since the ridiculous comparison precedent has been set, I will add that the two have one thing in common. After all EFFSteyn, in a nutshell, is just a player whose kicks have a bigger punch than the average goal kicker. It’s when he samples the other attributes any decent professional rugby player should possess (like passing, tackling, carrying the ball, basic decision making etc) that his mediocrity blinds all and sundry – except his die hard fans of course… :-D

I agree that Steyn has the physical talent but I’m not sure yet about a matching mental capacity. I do think it’s a handicap when you are messed about with playing on/off the bench & in different positions. I’m still not convinced he’s a quick enough thinker at #12. I would still vote for #15. # JimT: 527 – I think Steyn would be our best fullback ever. Just think he wont get a chance in that position with the Boks. Also the inside centre at the Sharks is available and Stefan is playing great at 15 but he wont be playing there for long think he is 34 this year. Steyn only 22. So who knows. Now once he plays 12 have to just keep him there for now.

I think when the Night Owls come on they will agree with us that the new look Keo especially the number next to the nick you are answering. It has to be put back. This morning we were reading our posts from top to bottom. Not good see they have changed that. # JimT: That will change shortly and then the old Cuba will be lost forever…Good deals to Cuba from the UK…but I have to travel so much to SA..I probably will never get there for the next two years..Haven’t travelled to the USA yet but I got a cousin in Sacramento and a few friends in NY..

    # Cuito Carnivale: 545 – LOL. Simply put they need to settle Steyn in at one position for S14 & CC. Then see if he is up to par to make the Boks team. Isn’t that what they they with most players? I think those drop goals of his in the test matches have screwed up the coach’s analytical thinking. Time to get back to basics. Droppies are a bonus not the be all & end all. it’s the rest of his game that counts.

  • 549.Puma: Reply to this comment

    # grant10: 547 – Well said mate. Lets see how Steyn does in one position this year and not being messed about think we will see a really great player end of season. Just hope now that he will be played all season in one position he does not pick up any injury just so he can prove just what a huge talent he is. Why would a overseas team want to pay so much for him if he was not?

    # Cuito Carnivale: 546 Not sure what you mean by the old v new Cuba. Old = pre-Castro? I think the Miami Cuban community may be surprised. It’s gonna be difficult to turn the clock back. Whole generations have grown up under the Castro regime. They will resent exile Cuban community coming back & trying to restore previous ownerships, control, etc? Besides think Raoul will be around for a while. I do think Obama needs to re-think US policy re Cuba. It’s been counterproductive for almost 50 years.

    # JimT: If he is injured for the whole season he will still be in the bok team…at least FDP understands that…they have bok contracts and can therefore select the games they want to play…got to give it to FDP…clever schemer

    # Cuito Carnivale: 550 – Yeah but JP is now one of the best wings in the world. Lets be honest here Steyn in the wc had to just slot into inside centre and he done very well there. Lets judge him after he has been given a chance at one position all season. Most of the players have played in their position all season. Steyn has had to slot in all over the show. Give this youngster a break. It seems even the overseas clubs can see his huge talent otherwise would never have got such a huge offer. I for one am pleased he is in the Sharks team. Don’t judge him this Saturday not fair but after a season in one postion. JdV has had many seasons there. Now lets be fair mate. FS is pure class. Just watch this season. Just hope he does not pick up any injury.

I am the same as you grant10 cant understand why everyone is bashing F. Steyn. Check all my posts I for one have supported him in all my posts. Cant understand why people keep bashing this youngster. Has huge, huge talent. Just watch how well he will play after playing 12 for the whole season at the Sharks. Maybe some will shut up and take note of the magnificent talent we have in Steyn. I for one just damn plesed this youngster is in our Sharks team. Also just look how well he played in the wc. Was only 20 then. Fearless too. I rate him very highly.

    # grant10: 569 – I mentioned that today to someone that was bashing Steyn. It actually just makes my mind wonder about those that are doing just that. Let them try and do what Steyn has done. Now when he wins us the game like Newlands that time they have all the great things to say about him when he has to play in all sorts of positions and cant produce like most that have a chance to play in one postion he gets bashed. Bugger them thats what I say. Steyn has huge talent. He will prove it this season just watch.

Like someone here said today our 9,10,12 combination is new and he thought that could be our downfall but said if those players who have huge talent, if they fired, Stormers could be in trouble. Agreed with him. Its somewhere here that post. Also read that Beast may not play then we have Carstens. I think if Stormers have a problem it may be the tight five.

Anyway its a huge game and could go anyway. Going to be a cracker.

    Watson on bench for opener?

    Sport24

    Stephen Nell

Cape Town. – Duane Vermeulen is believed to have the inside track to start at No 8 ahead of Luke Watson in the Stormers’ Super 14 opener against the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday.

While the Stormers held closed training sessions on Monday and Tuesday, the chances are apparently good that the loose-trio will consist of Schalk Burger, Francois Louw and Vermeulen.

It is anticipated that Watson will be on the bench when coach Rassie Erasmus on Wednesday announces his 22-man squad for the game.

Burger, who will play his 50th game for the Stormers, has apparently shaved off his blonde locks. “He almost looks a little like Wicus Blaauw,” said a team insider.

Vermeulen had an outstanding Super 14 with the Cheetahs last year and signed for Western Province in November. The composition of the Stormers loose-trio is one of the big talking points ahead of the game.

It is believed that Louw has recovered from his injury and Vermeulen did enough in the pre-season to win a place in the starting line-up and by yesterday afternoon there was still no certainty over the back three.

Fijian wing Sireli Naqelevuki is still recovering after injuring his ribs in the warm-up game against Boland. Erasmus said last week he would not expose Naqelevuki to risk.

The Stormers coach has several options, including asking Springbok fullback Conrad Jantjes to wear the No 11 jersey. Jantjes struggled with a groin injury in the pre-season, but is expected to be in the Stormers’ 22-man squad. Joe Pietersen and Nick Koster can also play on the wing.

Tasesa Lavea was today given the nod as the Blues’ starting first five-eighth in their Super 14 rugby season-opener against the Western Force in Perth on Friday night.

Lavea, returning to the Auckland-based franchise after two seasons with the Chiefs, gets the No 10 jersey ahead of former Hurricane Jimmy Gopperth.

However, Gopperth is likely to play some part in the match, with new coach Pat Lam indicating that all 22 players named in the squad would get a run because of the heat.

Lam has resisted rushing Josh Blackie into the side, the flanker having joined up with the Blues in Perth after completing two seasons in Japan.

Six of the squad named have yet to play Super rugby — winger Rene Ranger and No 8 Chris Lowrey in the starting 15; and forwards Charlie Faumuina, Dean Budd and Peter Saili, and back Jamie Helleur in the reserves.

Gopperth and fullback Paul Williams, a former Highlander, will be making their first appearances for the Blues.

Blues: Paul Williams, Anthony Tuitavake, Isaia Toeava, Benson Stanley, Rene Ranger, Tasesa Lavea, Taniela Moa, Chris Lowrey, Onosa’i Auva’a, Justin Collins, Anthony Boric, Kurtis Haiu, John Afoa, Keven Mealamu (captain), Tony Woodcock.

Reserves: Tom McCartney, Charlie Faumuina, Dean Budd, Peter Saili, Chris Smiley, Jimmy Gopperth, Jamie Helleur.

the blues look really poor in depth. their backline has had a shuffle with Ice at 13 now. other than the front row the pack looks quite average.

with lavea there trying to direct things i reckon the blues are gonna struggle to finish even mid table.

  • 796.money_man: Reply to this comment

    # grant10:

Don’t you watch rugby… Luke Watson is NO fetcher pal… other than a few turnovers many moons ago… he shies away from the breakdown… spending his time in the backline… hence Rassie’s use of him as a ‘utility-link-8′ last year… but now with Vermeulen in the mix… and an excellent 7 in the making in Louw… once all injury free… Watson will be lucky to warm the bench….
