Argentina beat England 19-14 to win the San Diego Sevens and claim only their second ever IRB Sevens World Series title.
Trailing 14-5 at the break, the Pumas quickly put pressure England after the restart and scored two tries through Martin Rodrigues and Lucas Amorosino, before their renowned defence kicked in to hold England at bay for the final five minutes.
South Africa’s tournament was ended at the hands of the English in the Cup semi-finals after Paul Treu’s men beat New Zealand 19-7 in the quarters.
South Africa and England are now level at the top of the Word Series standings with 60 points, eight clear of New Zealand after they beat Kenya in the Plate final.
