The South African U19 side will get their first run at international opposition with the upcoming two matches against France.
Manager of High Performance at Saru, Herman Masimla, believes that these tour matches are of vital importance to the development of the South African team.
“We have to create opportunities for our young players and the series against France is the ideal opportunity for us to assess the abilities of the players against first-class opposition.”
Masimla went on to carry the ramifications of these matches far into this young side’s future before humming the underdog tune which is quickly becoming part of the South African sporting psyche.
“This two-match series is an important part of our identification and selection process for the U20 World Cup in 2010. The European countries have the benefit of seeing their young players in action in their own Six Nations competitions, which I think give them an obvious and considerable advantage.”
The two teams will meet in Velddrif this afternoon. The second clash will follow on Saturday afternoon at Saldanha Sports Complex on the West Coast.
