Cheetahs captain Juan Smith will return home from Australasia after suffering another concussion.
Smith couldn’t play in the Springboks’ final Test of last year in England after taking a knock to the head when facing the Scots, and now a further concussion against the Reds means the struggling Cheetahs will be without their captain for the remainder of the tour.
The Free Staters have only won once Down Under (in 1997) and this will be a further blow to their chances of registering an elusive victory .
Smith will return home with eighthman Frans Viljoen – who broke an arm – with Kabamba Floors and Francois Uys their replacements.
The Cheetahs face a trio of Kiwi opponents in the Hurricanes, Blues and Highlanders in the coming weeks.
