Mallett brings in reinforcements

Under-fire Italy coach Nick Mallett has added eight players to his squad for the remaining Six Nations matches against Wales and France.

Centre Gonzalo Garcia is out after taking a knock to the head against Scotland, while prop Ignacio Rouyet has been dropped from the squad.

Evens: Hadden has our backing

Scotland winger Thom Evans insists that coach Frank Hadden has the full support of all his players.

Hadden’s future has been in the spotlight, with the 54-year-old reportedly being told he needs to secure two wins in this year’s Six Nations to hold onto his job.

A victory over Italy has eased the pressure slightly after defeats to Wales and France, but the chances of a win in either of Scotland’s two remaining games against England and Ireland appear very slim.

However, Evans has come out in support his boss.

“Frank has got the support of all the players,” said Evans. “I think he’s a great coach and if ever there’s a problem which he feels needs to be addressed, he’ll always take the player aside and explain the reasoning for it.

“That’s great to do when you’re the head coach and I’m firmly behind him.”
