Tuqiri taunts Reds

Tuqiri taunts Reds

Waratahs winger Lote Tuqiri believes the Reds exciting brand of rugby will see them run out of gas as the season continues.

Tuqiri’s comments come after Reds flyhalf Quade Cooper claimed earlier in the week that the Waratahs play “a simple, boring style”, while Queensland are “really exciting”.

Tuqiri warned the 20-year-old Cooper that he would have to match his words with actions when the two sides clash on Friday.

“It’s good with the chat and everything else, but it’s what you do out on the field,” said Tuqiri.

“I know I would rather be entertaining the crowd come Super 14 semi-final time rather than entertaining friends at an end-of-season barbecue. So we will see where that puts them at the end of the year. But I know where I would rather be at this time of year. We have a shot of building into the season and hopefully getting a semi-final spot.”

Meanwhile prop Benn Robinson has been cleared of injury and will earn his 50th NSW cap when the Waratahs take on the Reds in Sydney on Friday.

Robinson had been in doubt after sustaining a blow to his left knee which forced him from the field in last week’s 34-16 win over the Highlanders.

Waratahs - Sam Norton-Knight, Lachie Turner, Rob Horne, Tom Carter, Lote Tuqiri, Kurtley Beale, Luke Burgess, Wycliff Palu, Phil Waugh (c), Ben Mowen, Will Caldwell, Dean Mumm, Al Baxter, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Benn Robinson.

Norton-Knight heads north

Sam Norton-Knight has signed with Cardiff Blues and will play in the 2009/2010 Magners League.

The Waratahs fullback has signed for two seasons with the Blues. Coach David Young is ecstatic with the new acquisition. Norton-Knight is likely to play flyhalf for the Welsh club.

‘Sam is unquestionably a quality signing who has generated significant interest from many other parts of the globe and we are delighted he has chosen to come to the Blues.

“He is already an experienced player at a relatively young age with a fine level of maturity to his game. His versatility is a real bonus to our squad and we look forward to him becoming an important member of our squad next season.”
