Dale College amped for big season

Dale College head coach Grant Griffiths and his assistant Gavin Jones have done a superb job of nurturing the talent in this Eastern Cape area that is widely recognised as the cradle of black schoolboy rugby talent in the country.

Dale will be looking to improve on last year’s performances, especially their overturn defeats to Queen’s College (this season’s Classic Clash) and Selborne, where they were pipped at the post. Dale last beat both teams in 2005.

Two players who are prime examples of talented players coming through the system are hooker Lifa Ghana and enterprising centre Andile Gho, who oozes class. Both players have been part of the SA Schools team and have an exciting season ahead of them. Dale will be attending the Kearsney Easter Festival where they have three tough fixtures which should prepare them for a successful season.

Griffiths will also be tapping into the expertise of ex-Sharks flyhalf Luke Smith to aid with the backs and the kickers, as well as current Border coach Andre Human to assist with the forward pack. There is no doubt that Dale will surprise some of their more fancied opposition this year, and their willingness to keep the ball in hand combined with a never-say-die attitude will ignite their season in 2009.
