Rebuilding season for Landbou

Rebuilding season for Landbou

Last season was Boland Landbou’s worst in 20 years according to assistant coach Frikke van Zyl, but 2009 should be a different story.

Van Zyl coached at Paarl Gym for 36 years – of which 28 of those where in charge of Gym’s 1st XV – before joining Boland Landbou. He was disappointed with the team’s results in 2008 and blames the attitude of the players. Last year, Landbou lost to Paarl Boys, Paarl Gym and Paul Roos, and were thrashed 80-5 by rugby romantics, Bishops.

However, Van Zyl is relatively optimistic about 2009. He and head coach Johan Schreuder want to re-establish a winning culture and return to the basic structures that have made Landbou a success in the past.

Preparations for the 2009 season are well underway with former pupils helping out as well as provincial players in Willem de Waal, Deon Carstens and Hottie Louw.

Landbou will be attending the St Stithian’s Easter festival in April.
