Injury headache for Tahs
Wycliff Palu and hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau are serious doubts for the Waratahs derby game against the Brumbies this weekend.
Wallabies No 8 Palu has a fractured hand and is set to see a specialist to determine whether he can play. Polota-Nau will undergo a neurological test after coach Chris Hickey confirmed he suffered concussion when he ran into the hip of Queensland Reds lock Van Humphries early in the second half of last Friday’s match.
Under Sanzar rules, a concussed player must undergo a neurological test to be eligible to play the following week and the IRB stipulates that if a player either refuses the test or fails the test, he has a mandatory three-week break.
The Waratahs would be severely weakened with Palu and Polota-Nau missing. Their options at No.8 are Ben Mowen or Luke Doherty, while Adam Freier would take over as hooker, with Damien Fitzpatrick as his back-up.
