Late Sarries strike downs Bath
15 Mar 2009
Saracens produced heroics to beat Bath 20-16 at Vicarage Road.
Trailing by a point (16-15) with two minutes to go, Don Barrell sprinted down the touchline to secure a fantastic win for the embattled club. Remarkably, they rallied after Bath had established what they must have felt was a fairly significant 16-0 lead.
Bath’s Springbok flyhalf Butch James kicked three penalties and also crafted a superb try for Alex Crockett. But ultimately it was a brace from Rodd Penney, including a length of the field effort, and an Alex Walker try, which rattled Bath before Barrell’s match-winning score.
In other results, London Irish kept their play-hopes alive with a 38-17 victory over Worcester, while Newcastle beat Harlequins 24-16 at Kingston Park.

James created two tries (one disallowed), conceded one when a grubber didn’t come off, was pinged for an armless tackle once, kicked all his goals.

Nothing like a good dose of job insecurity to bring out a few heroics…
Have your say
