American Todd Clever will win his first Super 14 start when the Lions face the Brumbies at Ellis Park.
Clever, who has been used as a replacement in all of the Lions’ matches this season, is one of only two changes to the side that was hammered 56-18 by the Stormers. Ernst Joubert replaces Willem Alberts at No 8, with Clever in for Franco van der Merwe – who is dropped completely.
Joubert started against the Bulls after a lengthy lay-off due to injury, but was then sent to play for the Vodacom Cup team on the past two weekends. His inclusion ahead of Alberts is no surprise as the latter was one of the most disappointing individuals at Newlands.
Coach Loffie Eloff has made no other changes to the squad and is hoping for a change of attitude from the players.
‘There is nothing wrong with the coaching, the structures, the systems and fitness,’ said Eloff. ‘It is all about attitude, game discipline, urgency and accurate execution between the four lines.’
‘Now it is time for the players to deliver. I know they have the potential and ability to do it, and I will always believe in them.’
