Blues wary of resurgent Chiefs
Blues coach Pat Lam hopes his team aren’t the victims of another late kick-start from the Chiefs.
The Chiefs have endured their traditional slow start to the season, but two consecutive wins have primed them for their usual late dash for a play-off berth.
The two neighbours clash in what will be a crucial derby match at the Waikato Stadium with the Blues nicely positioned in fifth place, but Lam is alert to the threat the eighth-placed Chiefs pose.
‘Yeah, the Chiefs are right on form for what they have been doing the last few years,’ said Lam. ‘They struggle to win the first few, they get some scrappy wins and then they come hard out and build their momentum from the middle of the season.
‘I think we would be the ideal game for them now. So we are certainly expecting quite a fiery start and a lot of passion from them.’
