The Bones have rolled a shocker. They’ve picked the limp Lions to batter the Brumbies.
The Bones have defied company rules and actually gone in favour of Loffie’s Lions, although indications are that win or lose it could be Loffie’s last hurrah in a Super 14 tenure that has failed to meet expectations.
But why would the Bones buck convention? It has more to do with the Brumbies away record than it does any rejuvenation among the Lions. The Brumbies, on the road, are 50 percent the side that tends to dominate in Canberra, and with it being their first match in the robust Republic altitutde and a defiant Lions attitude will take them to a rare 2009 win.
Elsewhere the Bulls bubble will burst in what will be their toughest tour match and the Sharks will come unstuck against the Force, despite the home team’s poor return when it comes to winning in Perth. The Cheetahs will also struggle again against an improving Highlanders whose enthusiasm has been a strength.
In Sydney the champion Crusaders will concede in their title defence as the Tahs bounce back from their hiccup in Canberra and in the north island derby home ground advantage will favour the Chiefs over the Blues.
