Madiba magic jolts Jeppe

Two breakaway tries by winger Manjano Madiba saw St John’s beat Jeppe 20-14.

Jeppe had a surfeit of territory and possession but couldn’t convert that into points. St John’s outscored the visitors by two tries to one and led 9-6 at the break after an error-ridden first half.

Madiba’s second and most decisive try led to a 14-point turnaround when a mix-up occurred among the Jeppe backs on the home side’s tryline. The ball was spilled and St John’s pounced on the opportunity. They moved the ball quickly and effectively through numerous hands to their speedster, who sprinted the length of the field and scored under the uprights.

Confronted by a huge Jeppe pack, St John’s managed to soak up their opponents’ pressure, making the most of their limited possession.

St John’s coach Swys Joubert heaped praise on his team for their resilience against a very physical Jeppe side.

Flanker Ricardo Menezes and the centre pairing of Nhlanhla Tshabalala and Lincoln Koopman were the pick of the visitors’ players.

St Johns showed real character no lies. They scrapped for everything. We shall see how they fair on Saturday though against the up and coming Bennies ;)

Pretoria Boys High beat Bennies 31-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Pretoria.
Bennies are not a bad side at all but Boys High used their backs very effectively to kill off Bennies.

Jeppe have lost their first two tour games in New Zealand but I think the experience they gain from playing top NZ schools is going to help them when they return to SA.

There are some fascinating match ups at the Easter Festivals.

Boys High play Rondebosch, Eldoraigne and Westville at KES.
Jeppe have some huge fixtures at St Johns – notebaly against Mariztburg College who have already lost to Michael House and Glenwood.

I am really looking forward to the match up between Monument and Paarl Boys as well as Monument and Paul Roos. Affies also play a few huge fixtures at St Johns.

Get off your high horse about St Benedicts being a useless school! Rated in the top schools in the country year in year out! Bennies rugby is up and coming, just watch!
