ECB lines up Arthur

Proteas coach Mickey Arthur has emerged as a surprise candidate to become the next England cricket coach.

According to British newspaper the Daily Telegraph, Arthur is the external candidate most favoured by the England and Wales Cricket Board, who had hoped to appoint a replacement for Peter Moores before the start of the summer.

Arthur, who is contracted to SA Cricket until 2011, has seen his stock rise dramatically during the last year following a series of impressive results culminating in a Test series victory over Australia in their own back yard.

The England head coach’s position is believed to come with a £300,000 salary, a package that would significantly improve Arthur’s earnings.
