Canes rejig loose trio

An injury to openside flanker Scott Waldrom has forced Hurricanes coach Colin Cooper to shuffle his loose trio for Saturday’s game against the Lions.

Hawke’s Bay flanker Karl Lowe will start in the No7 jersey for the first time this season, with Faifili Levave recalled to the starting side at blindside in one of three changes in the pack.

Tim Fairbrother replaces Neemia Tialata at tighthead prop, while Dane Coles comes in at hooker for the injured Andrew Hore.

The backline remains unchanged with Tamati Ellison keeping a fit-again Cory Jane on the reserves bench.

Injury has played a part in all three changes to the forwards. Waldrom picked up his injury during training after arriving in Johannesburg, while Tialata’s body has not recovered from his 80-minute effort against the Bulls.

Hurricanes – 15 Tamati Ellison, 14 Zac Guildford, 13 Conrad Smith, 12 Ma’a Nonu, 11 Hosea Gear, 10 Piri Weepu, 9 Alby Mathewson, 8 Rodney So’oialo (c), 7 Karl Lowe, 6 Faifili Levave, 5 Jason Eaton, 4 Jeremy Thrush, 3 Tim Fairbrother, 2 Dane Coles, 1 John Schwalger.
Subs: 16 Ged Robinson, 17 Jacob Ellison, 18 Bryn Evans, 19 Api Naikatini, 20 Willie Ripia, 21 Jason Kawau, 22 Cory Jane.
