Boks to meet Aussies
28 Mar 2009
The Springbok Sevens team will face Australia in the quarter-finals after a 26-12 win over France in Hong Kong.
The French scored in the second minute but Robert Ebersohn’s try pulled the Boks back to 7-7 at half-time.
Another try early in the second spell had the French in the lead but Vuyo Zangqa crossed to again level the scores. Ryno Benjamin’s chip and chase handed them the lead with two minutes to go and Zangqa grabbed his second on the final whistle.
Earlier in the day they cruised to a 53-0 win over Uruguay.
The Boks scored nine tries over the South Americans but despite the scoreline were unimpressive against below par opposition. Their approach will be too loose when they hit top class opponents, while they have failed to adapt to the wet and humid conditions.
The injury of Philip Snyman, who was carried off on a stretcher with a leg injury, is also likely to rob the Boks of the physicality needed in such a tournament.
