Dale destroy Graeme
30 Mar 2009
A fierce first-half assault by Dale College propelled them to a 36-13 win over Graeme College on Saturday.
Dale took control of the game from the outset and applied massive pressure in the opening quarter. This physical approach worked well and by half-time the visitors had put the game beyond doubt at 24-8. The second half was dour by comparsion, with Dale eventually outscoring their hosts by five tries to two.
Dale eighthman Lubo Balo and openside flanker Cody Basson both gave solid performances. The pair were extraordinary at the breakdown and instigated numerous turnovers, which prevented the hosts from stringing together any productive phases. Basson, especially, was a constant threat on both defence and attack. For the home side, Chad Banfield took the game to the visitors but was alone in his efforts.
Grant Griffiths, coach of Dale College, told keo.co.za that he was ‘happy with the result and heartened by the performance’.
Dale will now prepare for their upcoming trip to KZN where they will take part in the Kearsney Easter festival. Graeme, meanwhile, will need to work hard on their set phases before the schoolboy league starts in the Eastern Cape.
