Butch boots Wasps
2 Apr 2009
Butch James kicked 17 points in Bath’s 22-14 win over Wasps that sees them move to third in the Premiership.
Trailing 11-9 at half-time Bath flanker Jonny Faamatuainu’s try and the boot of James sealed the result for the hosts.
Danny Cipriani meanwhile missed four of his six attempts at goal.
Harlequins’ 60-14 hammering over Worcester sees them go top, but the leading five sides – Quins, Leicester, Bath, Gloucester and London Irish – are all separated by just two points.
Bath and Harlequins meet on Saturday in a crucial showdown.

Butch is the logical choice for the Lions with Pienaar on the bench and taking over after the tour.

Butch has always been quality but, his move to the Prem has made him a better player. I am not saying the standard is better, but at the Sharks he was not given a big role. At bath he has a lot more to take on, as he kicks all the points as well as doing other fly-half duties. For SA and Sharks he was like a 3rd center at best. He did not take the kicks. Plus he is sound defensively.
Now we are begining to have a flyhalf, which in my opinion SA lack. SA is blessed with so many players in every position but 10. Pienaar is improving but he is not cutting it in my book. We need a 10..

Cipriani is rubbish.. he is like Brent Russell, a good runner but a poor defender…

Not quite stepping up to the plate as predicted is the young Cipriani…….maybe never really had anything in the first place??

I have seen a fair amount of Cipriani. He is a good player, and will still go big. Dont write him off. He generally has a fantastic boot, and can dictate a game.
Write him off at your own peril. A few bad games does not make him a poor player.

#12 Cheetha Champs: he’s had two good seasons and one **** season this season after injury. Far too early to be written off as he’s only 21 but needs to step his game up next season if he wants the England no.10 shirt.
