Arthob Petersen will retain the Springbok manager position after serving in a temporary capacity last year.
Aside from his recent stint on the Boks’ tour of the UK in 2008, Petersen has performed these duties between 1997 and 1999 and again between 2004 and 2006. Petersen was the manager the last time the British & Irish Lions visited South Africa in 1997.
“We’re pleased to have him back on board,’ said acting managing director of SA Rugby Andy Marinos. ‘He came in as a stop-gap on the end-of-year tour to Britain last year and quickly established a good working relationship with Peter de Villiers and the players. His familiarity with the players and the significance of the coming Castle South Africa 2009 Lions Series will stand everyone in good stead.”
