Waugh: Lay off Robinson
The Waratahs believe Wallabies loosehead prop Benn Robinson is being illegally targeted in the scrum with opposition loose forwards sliding up into the front row.
The issue flared during NSW’s 12-6 win over the Stormers on Saturday when Schalk Burger was repeatedly warned by referee Bryce Lawrence, then penalised for a dangerous infringement.
‘It effectively turns into a four-man front row. It is not a fair contest,’ said Waratahs captain Phil Waugh. ‘The referee let him get away with it the first couple of times, but it was good refereeing to penalise Burger.”
Waratahs coach Chris Hickey said: ‘It’s something we have been experiencing in nearly every game. It was good Bryce got on to it. It is illegal.’
