Butch cleared for Tigers tussle

Butch James has been found not guilty on charges of stamping and will play in Bath’s European Cup play-off against Leicester.

James was charged with an alleged stamp on Wasps centre Riki Flutey during the Premiership match on 1 April. If he was found guilty, James could’ve been banned for between two and nine weeks.

The Bok flyhalf will now get the opportunity to face the Tigers at the Walkers Stadium for the quarter-final clash on Saturday.

Leicester prop Julian White was however found guilty of punching England team-mate Andrew Sheridan and will be out for two weeks.

If he was still in a SA provincial / S14 or Bok jersey< I’m sure he would have been found guilty!

There are some fantastic HC games this weekend. This game will be a monster.

As for me, i will be shouting with all i have for Munster, my favourite European side. They play my kind of rugby.

Julian White punching Andrew Sheridan. Talk about a fight that you DONT want to get in the middle off.

Butch charged with stamping………what a surprise.

Butch is very highly ranked among the “Filthy Few”. Always has been.

It actually is a surprise, he’s never been a ‘dirty player’ as such.
His tackling may have been a bit suspect in his youth but that seems to have been sorted out.

Big Hit will probably be able to tell you more but by all accounts he has been keeping on the right side of the law for some time now.

I cant remember the last time he was cited, he’s never been involved in an eye gouge, stamping, punching etc incident before so to put him in the ‘Filthy Few’ category is a bit harsh.

Do you know if anything happened to sheridan?

Ja, I agree with you. There is a difference between playing hard and playing dirty. Butch just plays hard and as you have mentioned he has been able to control his aggresion in his later years.

Sorry Guys……..Butch is the dirtiest BACK. I have ever seen.

No Eye Gauges….sure …backs are not renown for that.

But LATE tackling…..oh yeah….he is the King of the semi-late tackle. With no arms and all shoulder.

Butch the King of Knunts. Full Stop. period. end of story.

“able to control his aggresion in his later years.”

Unfortunately, Butch could not control his Timing. Thus he remains/ed a late tackling arssehole.

As i said, that was a problem in his early years.

He’s cleaned all that up now.
Just because he put Dan Carter in the roast chicken position after a perfectly legit tackle doesnt mean hes dirty.

Hard tackling and playing? Yes. Dirty? No

I stand by what I have typed Biggles.
    -Late.
    -Premeditated.
    -Intended to cause injury.

Among the Filthy Few he ranks only behind Bakkies. The king of the ELBOW.

“He ranks only behind Bakkies” and i guess Brad Thorne is an Angel in your eyes?

Butch is not dirty, he just sometimes cant control his aggression.
Bakkies and Brad Thorne Id say are in the same league and you could argue that they are dirty but Id prefer to say that they are enforcers, these days you cant be dirty and get away with it. Bakkies wouldn’t have played as many Tests as he has by being outright dirty.

#12 cane: Of course Butch is dirty. But at the same time he is a marvelous baller with oodles of skills and a World Cup medal around his neck.

Butch is one of the flyhalves i would imagine the likes of Cipriani would not like playing against, as he would come at you all afternoon and you would always have to look out for the late hit. He intimidates players.

Good on him. Nothing wrong with being a dirty player, as long as you are good. (Ask Richard Loe, Bakkies Botha, Brad Thorn, Abdel Bennazi, Brian Moore, Garrick Morgan etc) All marvelous rugby players who were as dirty as all hell.

Butch just happens to be the only backline player on that list. :)

Long live dirty players in rugby. They remind us that we play rugby and not some other moffie sport.

#12 cane: Butch is only as late and as premeditataed as Ma’a Nonu ever was – lets be honest…

I think that the only time a Saffa player would be let off from a citing committee uncharged was when an english club needed him.

Dirty players. Richard Loe, Pat Lam, Brad Thorne (special mention for after the whistle, game ending injury to his defenceless opponent – no sanction). Piss off Cane.

CANE – you are a toss. You do not know your facts. Butch is the best flyhalf in the world at the moment. So get a grip and get your facts straight. He is not a dirty player-he just defends himself from the other dirty players. Honestly … I bet you have never even touch a rugby ball in your life you ******
