Western Province have issued a statement refuting Rassie Erasmus’s alleged move to the new South East franchise.
The Stormers have won two from eight this season and are unlikely to make the Super 14 play-offs for the second year since Erasmus joined the franchise. However, the WPRFU are backing the beleaguered coach during a difficult time and are adamant he will see out his contract, which expires in 2010.
The union has also denied Erasmus’s links to the new South East franchise which is set to launch this June with a game against the British & Irish Lions.
‘Recent media reports regarding Rassie Erasmus’ speculated move to the South Eastern Cape, and the reasons for the visits by [WP chairman ]Pat Kuhn and Tobie Titus [president] to New Zealand are incorrect,’ said the statement.
‘WP Rugby firmly supports Rassie Erasmus in his long term contract with Western Province/Stormers.’
