KES thump Jeppe
20 Apr 2009
KES continued where they left off at the Easter Rugby Festival with a resounding 65-10 derby win over Jeppe.
Jeppe were totally outclassed by their opponents and had no answer to KES’s dangerous backline.
‘We were quite lucky early on,’ said coach Carl Spilhaus. ‘Their [Jeppe's] defence out wide probably wasn’t as good as it should have been and I think they got caught out on a few occasions when we had our backs going up against their forwards in attack.’
Spilhaus described his team performance as ‘workmanlike’ and couldn’t single out one player in particular for praise.
‘I was particularly impressed by our work at scrumtime. I thought we were really good in that area and we even got a couple of tightheads which was very good to see and the ball from our lineout was very good which gave us a solid attacking platform.’
Spilhaus, though, believes his side will have to improve at the breakdown ahead of two tough games against Potch Boys in midweek and DHS over the weekend.

Parktown beat Pretoria this past weekend 33-22… Bit of an upset, first time in 19 years. Could there be more news concerning the Jo’burg schools other than how KES’s rugby is going, or do you have to send info through yourself? Sweet

Mind you I was pleasantly surprised by his analysis as a guest on this weeks Superrugby.
