Selborne came from behind to beat hosts Queen’s College 16-10 in a tense encounter.

The game was a tale of two halves as Queen’s had the upper hand in the first stanza, but poor ball retention in the second half saw Selborne sneak home in the end.

Queen’s coach Clint Loest was bitterly disappointed after the game and felt poor tactical kicking and a lack of concentration at lineout time cost his side dearly.

‘The first half was very good, but in the second half we put ourselves under a lot of pressure through some poor kicking,’ said Loest. ‘We also lost four lineouts in a row off our own ball in the second half which put us under even more pressure.’

Selborne also had the upper hand at the tackle point which resulted in a number of turnovers in the second half which led to their one and only try of the game with 10 minutes left in the game.

Things don’t get any easier for Queen’s with a trip to King William’s Town to face old rivals Dale College.

‘It should be another tough game and we will have to address a few things in training this week if we hope to turn things around,’ said Loest.

‘Our kicking game and our lineouts will have to improve tenfold and we will also have to work on ensuring we keep possession of the ball at the breakdown.’
