Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni believes his side must be better with ball in hand if they are to down the Delhi Daredevils.
Chennai were impressive in seeing off Bangalore on Monday, which was set up by posting an imposing total of 179-5. Now facing a Delhi opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Ghambir as well as AB de Villiers lower down, the captain called for a better showing in the field.
‘I am happy with the way we batted in Port Elizabeth,’ said Dhoni. ‘Our bowling is also doing well, but we can still improve. There is also scope for improvement in our fielding.
Matthew Hayden top-scored with 65 and Dhoni paid tribute to the Aussie legend as well as fellow opener Parthiv Patel as they put on 106 for the opening wicket.
‘Hayden was brilliant especially with the cheeky boundaries behind square. Hayden and Parthiv [Patel] set the foundation for the innings and when you have that kind of innings at the top, it makes it easier for the middle-order to post or chase a big total,’ said Dhoni.
Dhoni highlighted the influence of spinner Muttiah Muralitharan in improving in the field against the Daredevils in Durban.
‘Murali turned the very first ball bowling around the wicket and I knew that he would get us the wickets. It is great to have him in our team.’
