Pelous packs it in

Former France lock Fabien Pelous will retire from all rugby at the end of the season.

The most capped Frenchman of all time retired internationally after the 2007 World Cup, having earned 118 caps. He has continued to play for his club Toulouse and will look to end his career fittingly by claiming the Top 14 title as they are currently joint top of the table.

Pelous, 35, had initially planned to retire last year to go into politics but now insisted it was time to quit. ‘After careful thought, I felt it was time for me to go,’ said Pelous.

Pelous won two European Cups with his club as well as four Grand Slams with his country.

Pelous was a great rugby player – the crucial turning point in France’s (tragic) loss to England in the WC semi-finals of 2008 was his getting injured; until then he was playing the game of his life and leading from the front – a lock tackles a flyhalf and it’s the lock that goes off – strange.

He was a giant of the game – adieu Monsieur – travel well.
