Caveman joins Racing
30 Apr 2009
Sebastien Chabal has signed a three-year deal with big spending French club Racing Metro.
The utility forward had been approached by numerous French clubs after announcing he would leave Sale, but Racing – who secured promotion to the Top 14 last weekend – got his signature.
He will join France captain Lionel Nallet, while Frans Steyn is reported to be the next big buy. Reports also suggested that Chabal would earn €1.2m a year, but club president Jacky Lorenzetti refuted these claims.
‘We have been engaged for several months now in signing excellent players and not stars, because we have a habit of saying that with us there is not one individual star, it is the team that counts,’ he said.

Great – two of the world’s players with the worst hairstyles in one club.

Young Lion leaving for French club … article by RUDOLPH JACOBS
JOHANNESBURG – Young Lions Under-19 flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis has become the second South African rugby player in recent weeks to be sought by French club Racing Metro.
Catrakilis, only 19 years of age, is from St John’s College in Johannesburg and also plays flyhalf for the Lions Under-19 squad.
He is Paris-bound to sign for Racing Metro’s Under-23 squad.
…….
Racing Metro wants to develop the young Catrakilis, according to his father Nick, into a fully fledged first team player within the next two years.
Demetri is renowned for his long penalty kicks which range from his own 10m line and for his clever distribution of the ball.
The French club is keen on his ability and his potential to grow into a great player for the future.

A 60m penalty-kicker? Goodness me. Let’s hope the Frogs develop him into the full package, flyhalf is something we are a bit short on in South Africa.

#12 WP Till I Die: Ja but how long before he does a Pieter de Villiers and becomes “French”?

Well, from the sounds of his surname he probably already has Greek citizenship, or at least access to a Greek passport.

13. They invest in him, they will have him in the blue white and red, PDQ!

#12 WP Till I Die: At flyhalf I believe we start off spoilt for choice then slowly destroy their confidence by dropping them, playing them out of position and generally rubbishing them when they make a couple of errors

Good news about Frans. Hopefully all his praisesingers will shut up about him playing for the Boks when he leaves for France. Shows how much the Boks really means to him. He is not prepared to fight for his position by his performances. He wants to be picked on potential, **** performances and the few moments of brilliance. Daddy Jake is gone and now that Snor-monster is not reading from the same script.
All this is assuming he goes to France. If not, I take my words back.
Have your say
