Tillakaratne Dilshan’s unbeaten 52* helped the Delhi Daredevils to a six-wicket victory over the Deccan Chargers in Centurion.
Dilshan and Fidel Edwards were embroiled in their own personal battle and in the end it was the Sri Lankan who came out on top as the Daredevils ended the Chargers’ unbeaten run.
In pursuit of 149 for victory Delhi were in a bit of trouble at 49-3, but a 79-run partnership between Dinesh Karthik and Dilshan put the Daredevils in the pound seat and it was left to Dilshan, who cracked two fours and a six off Edwards in the 19th over, to seal the win.
Earlier in the day a mid-innings assault by Dwayne Smith helped the Chargers to a competitive total of 148-9 off their 20 overs.
At one stage things were looking very bleak for Deccan with the score at 53-4, but Smith’s quick-fire 48 off just 28 balls put the Chargers in with a shout of maintaining their 100% record in this year’s competition.
Despite Smith’s swashbuckling innings, Delhi would have been more than pleased and confident of coming away with a positive result having restricted them to under 150. In the end it was comfortable for Delhi as they drew level with the Chargers on eight points at the top of the log.
Dirk Nannes was the pick of the bowlers for the Daredevils finishing with figures of 2-16 off his four overs.
Deccan – 148-9 (20 overs)
Dwayne Smith 48, Tirumalsetti Suman 23, Dirk Nannes 2-16.
Delhi – 150-4 (18.4 overs)
Tillakaratne Dilshan 52*, Dinesh Karthik 41, Shoaib Ahmed 2-20.
