Four wickets in four balls from Rohit Sharma set up the Deccan Chargers’ 19-run victory over the Mumbai Indians at Centurion.
The Chargers set the Indians a modest target of 146 with Sharma again the hero as he held the innings together in his 38.
Mumbai were easing their way to victory at 97-3 after 14 overs but imploded for the second time within a week in their run chase as Dwayne Bravo firstly threw his wicket away.
It was then an inspired piece of captaincy from Adam Gilchrist with five overs to go to bring on part-time off-spinner Sharma as he claimed the wickets of Abhishek Nayar, Harbhajan Singh, JP Duminy and Saurabh Tiwary in consecutive balls. There were some poor shots that contributed to the hat-trick however.
Despite the loss Duminy did his credentials no harm as he was the only player to compile a score of substance with his well-played knock of 52. But the Proteas batsman will be disappointed he wasn’t able to convert his knock into a match-winning one yet again.
Deccan Charges 145-6 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 38, Dwayne Bravo 1-16)
Mumbai Indians 126-8 in 20 overs (JP Duminy 52, Sharma 4-6)
Chargers win by 19 runs
