Boys’ High take heart in defeat
11 May 2009
Pretoria Boys’ will go into their next game against St John’s in a positive frame of mind despite going down 20-15 to Affies at the weekend.
At one stage Affies led 20-3, but a gutsy second half performance from Boys’ High, including two tries from left wing Richmond Collins and centre Stephan Moir, made for a more respectable scoreline.
Director of sport at Boys’ High Mike Housdon believes the players will take a lot of positives out of the defeat to a quality Affies outfit.
‘We were up against a very strong Affies side who have only lost one game so far this season,’ said Housdon. ‘Considering that we haven’t played that well this season I think it was by far our best performance of the year.’
Housdon believes that a lack of communication on defence cost the team on the day.
‘They [Affies] scored two very soft tries in the opening 15 minutes and coming back from that was always going to be a tall order. They guys weren’t talking to each other and there were a couple of gaps in our defence. Affies were running some good angles and they punished us for that.
Housdon was impressed by the players commitment and believes that the team should go into another tough game against St John’s this weekend with a lot of confidence.
‘To come back from 20-3 down when you are staring a big defeat in the face is remarkable. The boys showed huge passion and a lot of guts and determination.
‘St John’s are never a push over but hopefully we can show the same sort of intensity we showed against Affies.’

Wow, I thought this was an article about Paarl Boys High taking heart out of a 50 point smack from Grey Bloem, in which case they would be fooling themselves. PBHS on the other hand can definatly take heart out of this result.
Have your say
