Mumbai blow Punjab away

The Mumbai Indians cruised to an eight-wicket victory over the Kings XI Punjab thanks to an 82-run partnership between Dwayne Bravo and Sachin Tendulkar.

Needing just 120 for victory Mumbai made light work of their target losing just two wickets early in their innings.

Bravo began the assault on Punjab’s bowlers blasting 10 boundaries on his way to an unbeaten 70* before the little master joined the party as the Indians cruised to a comfortable victory in Centurion.

On a spin-friendly pitch off Mumbai spinners Harbhajan Singh, JP Duminy and Ajinkya Rahane combined superbly to restrict Kings XI Punjab to 119. Harbhajan finished with outstanding figures of 1-9 from four overs, while Duminy bagged 2-15 from his four overs.

Young Sunny Sohal was the only Punjab batsman to offer any sort of resistance with a brilliant 43 from just 23 balls, but the lack of a partner at the other end meant he was left fighting a lone battle.

The one negative for the Indians would have been that the target was inflated by 18 extras with Lasith Malinga the main culprit, bowling six wides and a no-ball.

Punjab: 119-9 (20 overs)
Sunny Sohal 43, JP Duminy 2-15, Harbhajan Singh 1-9.

Mumbai: 122-2 (16.2 overs)
Dwayne Bravo 70*, Sachin Tendulkar 41*.

Mumbai won by 8 wickets.
