Peter de Villiers is hoping six of his players recover from their respective ailments ahead of Friday’s game in Windhoek.
The Springbok training squad assembled in Pretoria on Monday, but it was a depleted unit that took to the pitch. The Bulls players are unavailable due to Super 14 final commitments and the likes of JP Pietersen, Adi Jacobs, Schalk Burger, Jean de Villiers, Meyer Bosman and Andries Bekker are being managed by the medical staff.
Prop Beast Mtawarira also missed the session and will only join the squad of Tuesday on the completion of an exam he is writing.
Nevertheless, De Villiers is optimistic the players in concern will recover and the game in Windhoek will serve a purpose.
‘We need to use this game effectively to get the guys to gel again and to get our systems functioning,’ he said. ‘It is a bit tough without the Bulls players but we understand that they have a Super 14 final to play.
‘The Namibian game is an opportunity for some game time for those who will be in the Springbok squad, which is important to our preparations for the upcoming British & Irish Lions series.’
