Loffie Eloff has been asked to resign as head coach of the Lions and Hans Coetzee will take over immediately.
Although Eloff’s contract runs until 31 October his three-year plan has been a failure and the CE Manie Reyneke asked him to step down. Coetzee, who is manager of talent identification at the union, will step straight into the hotseat and his first game in charge will be against the British & Irish Lions next Wednesday.
Eloff has been demoted to another role within the union.
Reyneke said in a statement that the move was imperative in making the union a powerhouse of southern hemisphere rugby once more. The audit conducted by Jake White’s company, the Winning Way, indicated that immediate change was necessary at the union.
